The 78N style boots are best suited in agricultural environments where the ground is softer. Ideal as a robust walking / hiking boot.
As standard, the 78N specification is:
Leather: Dark brown smooth
Collar: N/A, fabric pull loop
Tongue/Overlay: Half bellows tongue
Thread: Dark brown
Eyelets: Antique brass
Toe: Polycarbonate reinforced toe-box
Last: Army semi-sprung
Shank/Counter: Wooden shank, polycarbonate counter for extra rigidity at the heel
Sole finish: Triple leather sole and leather stack heel fitted with metal toe-plates, treble hobnails and metal horseshoe heels
Laces: Brown leather

I’ve had a pair of these without hobnails for three years, worn every day for work in a workshop. They’ve been resoled and heeled every year and are as solid now as when new – DMs used to fall apart after six months at work. I’d say the sizing runs a little large.
